Meditate. . .

June 14, 2009

learn to meditate daily even if it means just 5-10 minutes out of your day. It can really help you to alleviate your stress. Think of it like rest for your brain. It helps if you give your brain a break atleast once during the day so that it can work more efficiently for you.

Here are some great quotes for nurses that should help all those nursing students get through their program when they feel they can’t. I realize this may not be the way people view nurses anymore however, these quotes are things we should strive to be daily.

Inspirational quotes for nurses:

Constant attention by a good nurse may be just as important as a major operation by a surgeon. ~Dag Hammarskjold
Nursing is an art: and if it is to be made an art, it requires an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation, as any painter’s or sculptor’s work; for what is the having to do with dead canvas or dead marble, compared with having to do with the living body, the temple of God’s spirit? It is one of the Fine Arts: I had almost said, the finest of Fine Arts. ~Florence Nightingale
Caring is the essence of nursing. ~Jean Watson
Nurses dispense comfort, compassion, and caring without even a prescription. ~Val Saintsbury
When you’re a nurse you know that every day you will touch a life or a life will touch yours.
The best thing a nurse can do is care, listen, and be compassionate . . . everything else is science.
Always thank your nurse,
Sometimes the only one between you and a hearse. ~Carrie Latet

And I saved the best one for last. . .
During my second year of nursing school our professor gave us a quiz. I breezed through the questions until I read the last one: “What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?” Surely this was a joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Before the class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our grade. “Absolutely,” the professor said. “In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say hello.” I’ve never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy. ~Joann C. Jones
